River Hill's Cina wins national junior title

THE BALTIMORE SUN

River Hill's Vince Cina etched his name into Maryland history last night by winning a national junior title in Greco-Roman wrestling in Fargo, N.D.

Cina (98 pounds) dispensed of his final opponent - Mark Degliobizzi of Delaware - in 1:46 with a technical fall. Cina became the sixth Maryland wrestler to win a tournament title.

Maryland had three other All-Americans: McDonogh's Chet Naylor (7-1 record) placed third in Junior 135, Mount St. Joseph's Mack Lewnes (6-2 record) was sixth in Cadet 145 and Walkersville's Dan Caywood was fourth in Cadet 135.

Lewnes, 14, surprised himself.

"My goal was to win a few matches in Greco and maybe get close to placing in freestyle," said the rising freshman. "It feels great to be an All-American."

Area boys with 4-2 records were Mount St. Joseph's Andrew Gold (Cadet 98) and Sam Lewnes (Junior 160) and McDonogh's Geoff Miller (Junior 171).

Catonsville's Alex Broadwater (Cadet 135) and McDonogh's Rick Tippett (Cadet 145) were 3-2.

Freestyle competition will begin today.
