New Market man gets extra 3 years in fraud scheme

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Frederick County man who claimed to be a well-connected concert promoter as he bilked investors of nearly $2 million was given a second three-year federal prison sentence yesterday and ordered to pay $678,550 in restitution.

The sentence will run concurrently to a 37-month term imposed in May for Carl A. Glorioso, 31, of New Market. U.S. District Judge Frederic N. Smalkin in Baltimore earlier had ordered Glorioso to pay more than $1.3 million in restitution.

Authorities say Glorioso's fraud scheme began in 1999, when he persuaded a friend to invest $590,000 to underwrite a Backstreet Boys concert. Glorioso admitted that he continued to dupe investors after pleading guilty to the original scheme.
