Truck House Road delays likely as work resumes on pipes

Motorists can expect traffic delays on Truck House Road in Severna Park as the county resumes work tomorrow on a new 24-inch water transmission main.

County contractors will be constructing 1,500 feet of main in the roadbed north from Trinity Bible Church toward Earleigh Heights Road.

The work is scheduled to be done by the end of next month, according to county public works officials.

Truck House Road will be closed for temporary periods for excavating equipment in one lane to load material into dump trucks in the other lane. Pipe and backfill material will be delivered to the site during this phase of the project.

Motorists are urged to avoid the construction area if possible, and to use caution and pay attention to traffic control equipment, signs and flag monitors.

Tree-trimming bill among Annapolis council issues

When the Annapolis city council meets tomorrow, a bill that would expand the city's ability to protect its tree cover is among items up for public hearing.

Mayor Ellen O. Moyer, who is sponsoring the ordinance, said it would require utility companies to notify the public and follow national standards for tree-trimming.

Others items up for public comment are: an ordinance that would change the name of the city's Arts in Public Places Fund to the "Art Fund" and expand it to include the performing arts; and an ordinance to extend city sewer service to the Annapolis Business Plaza Condominium on Hudson Street in the county, which is up for annexation. The sewer ordinance is expected to be voted on by the council.

The Annapolis city council will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the council chambers in City Hall on Duke of Gloucester Street.
