Schiminger, Swindell join Adams Express

The Adams Express Co. announced that David R. Schiminger and D. Cotton Swindell have joined the Baltimore equity investment firm as equities research analysts.

Schiminger, a master's of business administration graduate of the University of Virginia, is a chartered financial analyst and was formerly with the Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Co. Swindell, formerly an analyst with Wachovia Securities, received his MBA from Duke University.

Towson search firm names Lavan partner

Roberts Ryan & Bentley named Gary P. Lavan as a partner in the Towson-based executive search firm. He will lead the firm's industrial retained search practice. Formerly with Chesebourgh Ponds, he graduated from Rollins College and attended graduate school at Cornell University. A resident of Homeland, he is also an artist and musician and is active in several professional and civic organizations.

Whiteford, Taylor, Preston names two associates

Whiteford, Taylor & Preston announced that Jeffrey C. Maynard and Kristin K. Going have joined the Baltimore-based regional law firm as associates.

Maynard, of Baltimore, is a patent attorney assigned to the firm's technology and intellectual property practice. Formerly with Draughon Professional Association in Florida, he is a graduate of the Naval Academy and received his law degree from the University of Maryland. Going, a bankruptcy attorney, received her master's in law from St. John's University and was formerly with Weltman, Weinberg & Reis of Cleveland.

Greenbelt company names Cooper development chief

Coakley Williams, a Greenbelt based hotel management company, appointed Paul Cooper director of development. He will have responsibility for increasing the firm's portfolio of managed hotels. A graduate of Old Dominion University, he was previously with Criimi Mae Services, a real estate investment trust.
