Changes are on the way in the next month for the Pier D security checkpoint at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Four Magnetometer screening machines will be in place by tomorrow, and two more will be added by Aug. 1. A seventh machine is to be added by late next month.

The security checkpoint is used by US Airways, American Airlines and Air Tran Airways. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before departures.

Ramp from Elm Road to close for landscaping

The entrance ramp from Elm Road to BWI's rental car return area will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday for landscaping.

The Maryland Aviation Administration is doing the work, which includes tree and shrub removal, excavation, topsoil placement, mulching and planting.

The work is part of a project to extend Pier A by 12 gates and connect it to Pier B.
