OCEAN CITY - Two New York men were killed Saturday night when their sport utility vehicle crashed through restraining cables at a downtown hotel parking garage and fell about 40 feet.

Brian T. Donnellan, 23, of Fishkill, N.Y., and Stefan Forpin, 23, of Hopewell Junction., N.Y., were riding in a Chevrolet Blazer that, according to witnesses, was driving at a high speed through the five-story garage at Howard Johnson Oceanfront Plaza Hotel about 11 p.m., Ocean City police said.

On the fourth level, the Blazer rammed a parking bumper and broke through five of the six barrier cables that act as a railing around the garage's exterior, police said.

The SUV landed on its roof on Washington Lane behind the hotel, trapping both men, who were wearing seat belts.

Donnellan was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, where he was pronounced dead. Forpin was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, where he died early yesterday morning.

A similar accident happened in June 1998 at the same garage when an Oldsmobile crashed through the third-floor railing after the driver left her parking space too quickly. The car landed on its front bumper and rolled onto its roof. The four people in the car were not seriously injured.
