Bertha Rebecca Gordon, a retired A&P; meat department clerk who enjoyed collecting antique glassware, died of a heart attack Wednesday at Union Memorial Hospital. The Owings Mills resident was 89.

Born Bertha Gordon Berryman in Baltimore and raised in the Woodberry section of the city, she attended city public schools before leaving to help support her family.

She was married in 1939 to Edward Wilson Gordon. Mr. Gordon, a retired Bethlehem Steel Corp. inspector, died last month.

In 1958, Mrs. Gordon began working in the meat department of the A&P; at Liberty Crest Shopping Center in Lochearn. She retired in 1975.

Always interested in young people, she was the driving force behind the establishment of the Randallstown Teen Center in the late 1950s.

Later on, Mrs. Gordon took a personal interest in the operation of the center, organizing Saturday night dances, selecting music and arranging transportation for the teen-agers. She also recruited chaperones and made sure the refreshments were plentiful.

"She was always held in high esteem by these teens throughout their adulthood," said her daughter Vicki L. Ferguson of Eldersburg.

Mrs. Gordon enjoyed attending yard sales and hunting for the antique glassware that she collected. She also collected coins and liked traveling to casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas to try her luck at the slot machines.

Services were held Saturday.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, Edward W. Gordon of Laurel, Del., and Larry W. Gordon of Manchester; two other daughters, Janis Lee Bradley of Sykesville and Judy R. Ward of Mardela Springs; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
