City woman indicted in fatal crash

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Baltimore corrections officer was indicted by a grand jury yesterday and charged with manslaughter with an automobile.

Shawnisha T. Lucas, 24, of the 1700 block of Park Ave., was driving in the 1700 block of Bloomingdale Road at 5 a.m. June 30 when the 1992 Buick LeSabre she was driving crashed into four parked cars, said Margaret T. Burns, spokeswoman for the Baltimore state's attorney's office. Killed in the accident was Lucas' passenger, Talia G. Moore, 24. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A Breathalyzer test determined that Lucas' blood-alcohol level was 0.13 percent. Maryland's legal limit is .08 percent. A second indictment charges Lucas with possession of marijuana in a sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to distribute. A search of her vehicle immediately after the crash revealed more than one pound of marijuana in the front passenger area.

An Aug. 30 arraignment date was set for Lucas, a corrections officer at the Baltimore City Detention Center.
