Ellicott City man, 18, arrested, charged in multiple burglaries

Howard County police arrested an Ellicott City man Friday who they believe was involved in at least 14 area burglaries.

Ryan Matthew Sorrell, 18, of the 4600 block of Smokey Wreath Way was seen walking up to open garage doors in the 4100 block of Red Bandana Way and looking inside, police said yesterday.

A police investigation revealed that a man had been entering unlocked garages and stealing alcohol and money, police said.

Sorrell was charged with multiple counts of burglary, one count of theft and one count of trespassing, police said.

Sorrell was being held at the Howard County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.

Lancaster associate chief of county library system

Liz Lancaster, a 26-year Howard County Public Library veteran who shepherded the central branch through a difficult 17-month renovation, has been named the system's associate director.

Library Director Valerie J. Gross chose Lancaster for the $87,900-a- year post, which has been vacant since November. Gross is searching for a new central branch manager.

"Liz enjoys the finest of reputations among staff and in the community," Gross said.

Developers and members of community to meet

Developers planning subdivisions in eastern Howard County must meet with neighbors before submitting plans to the county.

The next scheduled meeting is to be held at 3 p.m. Friday at KCE Engineering Inc., 3300 North Ridge Road, Suite 315, Ellicott City, about the Dorchester Homes property, 6015 Shady Lane in Hanover.
