Marian Elizabeth Black, who raised funds for the construction of Franklin Square Hospital, died Friday of kidney failure at Manor Care Rossville. She was 82 and had lived in Wilson Point for the past 52 years.

Born Marian Elizabeth Hamper in Baltimore, she was raised in the Long Beach section of Bowleys Quarters. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parochial School and was a 1938 graduate of Seton High School.

In 1942, she married Theodore Black, a tool and die maker; he died in 1968.

She was an administrator with the Middle River aircraft manufacturing company in the 1940s and later worked to raise funds for Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore County. After the building was constructed in the 1970s, she worked in the hospital's administrative records department. She retired about 20 years ago.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

Services will he held at 1 p.m. today at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, 1407 Old Eastern Ave., Essex.

She is survived two sons, Thomas W. Black of Sparks and Wayne C. Black of Fallston; two sisters, Gertrude Mikelonis of Parkville and Carolyn Pilar of Sarasota, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
