Women-owned businesses group to hold open house

The Women Owned Business Association will hold an open house to introduce the group to the community. The association was formed to help increase awareness of area businesses owned by women.

The association's membership reflects the diversity of business opportunities in the area. Charter members represent Access Enterprises LLC, Creative Memories, Discovery Toys, ACN, Fruition Gifts, Longaberger, Mary Kay, On-Site Shiatsu, Pampered Chef, Premier Designs, Southern Living and Tupperware.

The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at St. James United Methodist Church, 12470 Route 99, West Friendship.

Businesswomen's group to hold luncheon July 15

The Business Women's Network of Howard County, an organization that seeks to promote the advancement of women in business, will hold an informal luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 15 at the Cafe de Paris, 8808 Centre Park Drive, Columbia.

The cost is $25.

Young Professionals Group to meet for happy hour

The Young Professionals Group will hold its July meeting as a happy hour at Champps Restaurant at The Mall in Columbia. The group will meet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday on the patio or at the bar.

The networking organization meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

Real estate careers seminars scheduled

Long & Foster Realtors will hold seminars on beginning a career in real estate.

The seminars are free, but reservations are advised.

Seminars will be held at the company's Columbia office, 10741 Little Patuxent Parkway, at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. July 15, and 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. July 22.

Career fair: Howard County Human Resources Society, a new affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, will sponsor a Workforce Development Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 2 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. Work force development staff members will be available to critique job seekers' resumes. Two workshops on how to conduct a successful job search will be offered. Employers can rent a booth for $300 to $350; the price includes setup, advertising, a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. Sponsors also are being sought.
