Common Ground on the Hill will present its fifth American Music and Arts Festival on Saturday and July 14 at Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster.
A music, dance and art festival for all ages, the American Music and Arts Festival celebrates the "common ground" found in traditional arts.
The festival is a culmination of the eighth weeklong Common Ground on the Hill workshops held at McDaniel College, which attract participants from around the world.
Musical offerings are a potpourri of American genres, including blues, folk, bluegrass, Native American, Appalachian old-time music and dance, jazz, gospel, Celtic, African drumming and dance, world percussion, storytelling, poetry, performance art, juried arts and crafts, ethnic foods and a children's festival.
The festival will feature more than 80 performers making music, dancing, storytelling and leading song and drum circles, on four stages: Pavilion Main Stage, the woodsy Amphitheater Stage, Marcia Selko Memorial Blues Stage and the Children's World Village Interactive Stage.
On Saturday, the festival will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring Odetta on the Pavilion Main Stage for shows at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
As the farm museum grounds close Saturday, a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight will begin next door at the Carroll County Agricultural Center, featuring old-time dance led by the Common Ground Concert String Band.
On Sunday, the fun will begin again from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Tom Chapin featured for shows at the World Village and Pavilion Main Stages.
Admission for the festival is: weekend pass, $34; Saturday only, $22; Sunday only, $18. Teens ages 18 and younger are $8 a day. Children ages 12 and younger are admitted free with a paying adult.
Camping in the rough at Carroll County Agricultural Center is $8 per person per night.
