Angels update

Anaheim remains one of baseball's biggest surprises, with the fourth-best record in the American League. Tim Salmon and Darin Erstad have rebounded nicely from disappointing 2001 seasons, and Garret Anderson was named to his first All-Star team. Erstad could be voted in by fans as the 30th man. Salmon has been especially hot, batting .326 with 11 homers and 41 RBIs since posting a .183 average in April. The heat hasn't reached third baseman Troy Glaus, who batted .177 in June. Anaheim leads the AL with a .281 team batting average, and ranks fourth in pitching with a 4.07 ERA. The additions of veterans Appier and Aaron Sele have been crucial while younger pitchers like Ortiz and Washburn continue to mature into quality starters. The Orioles went 5-4 against Anaheim last year, winning two of three on the West Coast. All three of those games were decided by two runs or fewer. The Angels haven't swept the Orioles at home in a three-game series since 1993.
