William Wheary Beane, until recently a senior vice president of risk management at Carrollton Bank, died June 25 of multiple organ failure at University of Maryland Medical Center. The Towson resident was 60.

The cause of death may have been the result of a spider bite, said his wife of 36 years, the former Sandra Mayer.

The Virginia native attended Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va., and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., in 1965. He was a Marine Corps reservist during and after college.

Mr. Beane lived in Newport News, Va., while working for 22 years in the Signet Bank internal audit department.

After moving to Maryland in 1989, Mr. Beane joined Carrollton Bank in 1993, where he was a senior officer until last year. At the time of his death, Mr. Beane was employed by 1st Mariner Bank as an auditor, an occupation that gave the Beanes more time for their shared love of sailing trips around the Chesapeake Bay.

Mr. Beane was active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, in which he served as a national staff officer; the U.S. Power Squadrons and the Sue Island Sail and Power Squadron in Middle River; Gideons International; Virginians in Maryland; and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Mr. Beane's grandfather had been a Confederate soldier.

Services were held Saturday in Mr. Beane's hometown of Kilmarnock, Va.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Beane of Newport News and Katherine Anne Beane of Severn.
