On the 464-yard, par-4 17th, Don Pooley hit a driver off the tee to the center of the fairway, and his approach with a 5-iron from 175 yards hit a foot in front of the cup and rolled 25 feet to the back of the green. He made a birdie putt to put him at 8-under for the round. He finished with a Senior Open single-round scoring record.
