On the 515-yard, par-5 third hole, R.W. Eaks hit a drive into the left side of the fairway. With 194 yards to the flagstick, Eaks hit a 6-iron onto the green. It stopped about 13 feet short of the cup, which was cut in the right front of the green. Eaks, who had started on the back nine and was 6-under at the time, made the putt for eagle 3 to go to 8-under.
