Catonsville man, 68, arrested after 3-hour standoff with police
CATONSVILLE - A 68- year-old Catonsville man, whose name was not released, was arrested last night after holding off Baltimore County Tactical Team officers during a three-hour standoff.
Police spokesman Bill Toohey said that about 8 p.m., police responded to a call at a house in the 100 block of S. Symington Ave. The first officer who arrived was confronted by a man armed with a handgun who retreated into the house. An 83- year-old woman, reportedly a relative of the man, was also inside the house.
About 10:45 p.m., the uninjured woman walked out of the house moments before members of the tactical team entered and arrested the man without incident. "There were no shots fired and no injuries," Toohey said.
State police to graduate 46 from academy today
TOWSON - The 118th academy class of the Maryland State Police will graduate at 10 a.m. today at Towson University.
Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Maryland Democratic Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski are scheduled to join Col. David B. Mitchell, state police superintendent, at the ceremony in Stephens Hall, 8000 York Road.
Forty-six candidates will receive their certificates and be sworn in as troopers after six months of physical and academic training.
Music students to perform at Oregon Ridge Park
COCKEYSVILLE - Baltimore County students will present an instrumental concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oregon Ridge Park.
The concert will mark the end of an eight-day music camp attended by 380 students in grades seven through 12. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Judge sentences man to 30 years in killing
A Circuit Court judge sentenced one of three men convicted in the killing of a 19-year-old Baltimore man in June last year to 30 years in prison Wednesday.
Robert Hanna, 20, of the 200 block of Dallas Court had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a handgun charge in the death of George Chisholm Jr.
Judge Roger Brown also sentenced Curtis Williams, 24, of the 200 block of S. Mason Court as an accessory after the fact to a five-year suspended sentence with credit for time served - 389 days.
Johnny Timmons, 24, of the 200 block of Ballou Court, who admitted to conspiracy to murder, will be sentenced July 26.
Streetcar museum to hold retired operators reunion
Baltimore Streetcar Museum is holding a reunion of retired streetcar and trackless trolley operators (not bus) at noon tomorrow at the museum, 1901 Falls Road.
All retired operators who worked for United Railways and Electric Co. and Baltimore Transit Co. will be guests of the museum.
The museum also will dedicate the Berley Roberts Sr. Memorial Display, which honors African-American operators who worked for the transit company. The public event will include a picnic, trolley rides, movies and a slide show featuring Baltimore streetcars. Information: 410-837- 1164.
NeighborGood grants given to 56 city neighborhoods
The Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts has awarded NeighborGood grants of up to $1,000 to 56 city neighborhoods.
