Firefighters have not determined the cause of a fire that killed a 72-year-old Edgewood woman in her trailer home early Thursday morning, said W. Faron Taylor, deputy state fire marshal.
Mary Ada Owens of 1900 block of Chipper Drive died in the fire, Taylor said. The victim's son, Kelly Stewart Owens, who was living in the house at the time, escaped. He is now in the custody of the Harford County sheriff's office, which discovered he was wanted for failing to appear in court on a charge of violating his probation.
Neighbors called firefighters to report the blaze.
"The popping noise woke me up," said Barbara Shimel, who lives across the street. Sirens woke the rest of the neighborhood, she said.
The trailer was ruined, but there was no damage to any of the surrounding houses, said Taylor.
Owens, who used an oxygen tank, did not go out much, according to Shimel.
Kelly Stewart Owens will remain in custody until his new court date, said Ginger Rigney, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
