Randolph Meade Jr., a retired career Navy officer and former vice president of business and finance at the University of Delaware, died of Parkinson's disease Sunday at his Annapolis residence. He was 87.

Born and raised in Danville, Va., Mr. Meade earned a bachelor's degree in naval science from the Naval Academy in 1936, and a master's degree in international affairs from George Washington University in 1965.

A supply officer, Mr. Meade served in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II, including the D-Day invasion.

He later served as aide and special assistant to the assistant secretary of the Navy and then undersecretary of the Navy.

As a supply specialist, Mr. Meade saw duty in the Far East. At the time of his 1966 retirement with the rank of captain, he was the Naval Academy's fiscal officer and head of the Midshipman Services Activities Department.

He moved to Newark, Del., and from 1966 until 1973 was vice president of business and finance at the University of Delaware. He retired for a second time in 1973 and moved to Annapolis.

Mr. Meade was a member of the board of Annapolis Life Care from 1983 to 1996, the management body for the Ginger Cove retirement community, where he was also chairman of the building committee.

Services were held Thursday.

Mr. Meade is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Audrey P. Lloyd; a son, Randolph Meade III of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; three daughters, Kathleen Meade Craighill of Annapolis, Julie-Ann Meade Urban of Landenberg, Pa., and Susan Meade Fitzgerald of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
