Norwood J. Sweeney, 82, Locke Insulators employee

Norwood J. Sweeney, who had worked in the shipping and receiving department of Locke Insulators Corp. for more than 40 years, died of cancer Monday at his Ocean City home. He was 82.

He had lived in Brooklyn Park before moving to Ocean City in 1982. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of St. Rose of Lima Parochial School.

He began his career in 1940 in the shipping and receiving department of the Port Covington maker of porcelain insulators, and retired in 1982.

During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard ships in the North Atlantic. He was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Sweeney was a member and former treasurer of the United Electrical Workers union.

He was a member of the Ocean City Knights of Columbus, American Legion Sinepuxent Post No. 166, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Mr. Sweeney enjoyed boating and fishing.

He was a communicant of St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Ocean City, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered Thursday.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Jenny M. Badalato; two sons, Michael A. Sweeney and Joseph Sweeney, both of Pasadena; a daughter, Gina M. Downes of Rosedale; two sisters, Lelanie Baer of Bel Air and Rosemary Harden of Florida; and two grandchildren.
