Cardinal William H. Keeler is shuffling several of his top aides in the offices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore. The changes, announced in yesterday's issue of The Catholic Review, were routine and had nothing to do with the clergy sexual abuse scandal, church officials said.
The Rev. J. Bruce Jarboe, who as director of clergy personnel had a key role in the church's handling of priests involved in sexual abuse, will take a yearlong sabbatical in Rome before accepting a new assignment. The Rev. Patrick M. Carrion, currently associate director of the office that handles priests' assignments, will become director. The Rev. Jay F. O'Connor, pastor of St. Andrew by the Bay in Annapolis, will become the associate director.
Keeler will also beef up his vocations office, which is responsible for recruiting for the priesthood, by adding an additional priest. The Rev. John Kevin Farmer, who supervises a youth retreat center in Sparks, will become the associate director of the Office of Vocations, assisting the Rev. Gerard C. Francik.
