It's a Friday fiesta as the Elkridge Branch Library kicks off a series of international-themed events for children, called Kids on the Go. This week the library has stories, crafts and songs from Mexico.
Children 5 and older are invited to do the Mexican hat dance, make noisemakers and paper-bag animal puppets and listen to stories about our southern neighbors.
A librarian will use paper characters to share the story of Cucu, a cuckoo bird who proves her worth when farm fields catch on fire. Drawing on the bilingual picture book Cucu, by Lois Ehlert, this retelling of a Mexican folk tale shows that you can't judge a bird by its feathers.
A librarian will also tell an animal story with parts in English and parts in Spanish.
The program begins at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. tomorrow at 6540 Washington Blvd. Registration is required; call 410-313-5085. Stories and music from other parts of the world, including India, China, Kenya, Italy and the Caribbean, will be offered Fridays at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. through July 26.
