BWI partnership issues economic business report

Economic conditions are expected to improve this year for the commercial community around Baltimore-Washington International Airport, according to a report released by the BWI Business Partnership.

The report on the BWI business district's economy includes information on real estate and considers residential, commercial, industrial and consumer markets.

The report also tracks BWI's passenger traffic from 1993 to 2001. A record number of passengers - 20.4 million - passed through the airport last year, marking the eighth consecutive year of growth.

The BWI Business Partnership is a nonprofit economic development and transportation management association made up of area employers.

BWI council to elect board, officers tomorrow

The BWI Development Council will meet and elect its board and officers for 2002-2004 at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow in BWI's observation gallery. The meeting will include an update on airport activity, and retiring board members will be recognized.

The council works to increase awareness of BWI and its economic importance to the state. Membership is open to businesses and individuals in the Baltimore-Washington region.

The group includes five subcommittees: business and industry, cargo development, education, legislation, and tour and travel.

The tour and travel subcommittee consists of more than 80 members. It includes representatives from the hotel industry, airlines, tour companies, travel agencies, tourism organizations, area conference and visitors' bureaus and transportation companies.

The closures will be from 10 p.m. Saturdays to 10 a.m. Sundays.

Lighting improvements and repairs will be made on Runway 10/28, used for commercial jet traffic. Runway 15R-33L will be used during the closures.
