THE BALTIMORE SUN

Until fall, just color me Calvin

Calvin Klein has done it again. His makeup line, called Calvin Klein "color," is right on for summer.

"Uncomplicated, natural and inspired by fashion" is how Klein describes his latest shades. He has drawn from his women's fashion collection to create new tints for eyes, lips, cheeks and body, too.

This season's makeup palette mimics what he showed on the runway: cassis sheer silks and aubergine organzas. Both reflect the idea of deep color paired with transparent texture.

For cheeks, check out his limited-edition (available through August) pink luster and mocha glow "cheek sheen" ($23); for lips, there are three new limited-edition colors -- cassis, champagne and camelia -- in his "double satin lip tint" lipsticks ($16); and for eyes, there's an assortment of washes in colors like cloud, peridot, amber and pink sapphire ($14).

Available at department stores including Hecht's in Annapolis and Columbia.

Vitamin C: It's not just for breakfast anymore

Summer is here, which means sunburned and dehydrated skin. In our continuing effort to repair the damage, we may have found a great, if pricey, solution.

Meet dermatologist, Dr. Frederic Brandt. The difference between his skin-care products and others on the market? Dr. Brandt's are formulated under his medical eye for maximum safety and efficiency -- offering high performance without a prescription. Dr. Brandt's bustling practices -- in both New York and Miami -- include celebrity clients such as Cher, Madonna and Rupert Everett.

His Vitamin C Body Lotion ($75) incorporates high levels of C, which are said to fade discoloration and promote firming of the skin. His Vitamin Moisture Mask ($35) is loaded with vitamins A, C and E.

Available at Nordstrom, Sephora.com and select Sephora boutiques. For more information, log onto www.drbrandtskincare. com.

Liquid summer

Philosophy's philosophy is probably what you would expect from its new The Healthy Tan ($16) in a tube: "Do something healthy for yourself." And that means achieving summer's goddess-like glow without baking in the sun all season.

Before use, make sure your skin is completely and evenly exfoliated, as dry patches on skin can lead to uneven results. Apply a thin and even coat onto cleansed, dry skin. Reapply every five hours until you get the depth you want. Don't forget to use sparingly around the hairline, knees and elbows. There is nothing worse than uneven streaking and unsightly lines.

Available at Nordstrom, Sephora.com and Philosophy.com.

What's coming down the aisle

June means weddings and lots of them. Jennifer Cegielski, content director for the online wedding planner The Knot, tells us what the stylish bride is wearing.

* Ruffles. "Not all over in a scary way, but sexy -- in an architectural, well-placed way." Look for them along hems, across the top of a bodice, or in a grapevine design down the back.

* Feminine, flirtatious dresses. That means "belled, looser sleeves and tiered skirts."

* Lace. It is no longer all over the dress but placed strategically.

* Sleeves. The most modern is the three-quarter sleeve.
