Carroll County Farm Museum is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the almshouse (now the farmhouse) with an "Almshouse Weekend" from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday andSunday.
Visitors will glimpse the lifestyle of the farmhouse when it was the County Home and Farm with about 70 people living there. Tour guides in period dress will describe rooms as they were used starting in 1853 and discuss how the almshouse and its residents gradually changed with modern times.
The public is encouraged to take photographs and share their stories of almshouse times. Informal discussions and sharing of artifacts and memories will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the Carroll Room, now the farmhouse tea parlor.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Kathy Forst will discuss her research about almshouse life in the 19th century. .
Admission will be $3; $2 for children ages 7 to 18 and senior citizens age 60 and older. Age 6 and younger will be admitted free with a paying adult. Museum memberships will be honored.
