Rather than contend, the Phillies have become cranky. They held a players-only meeting before Wednesday's victory in Cleveland. Pitcher Randy Wolf replaced third baseman Scott Rolen as assistant player representative. The meeting addressed other issues, including team unity after an unidentified veteran referred to Rolen as a clubhouse cancer. Rolen went 0-for-12 with five strikeouts in the Cleveland series. The Phillies remain in last place in the National League East, but at least they're playing better on the road. They needed a 5-1 stretch through Detroit and Cleveland to improve to 10-23 on the road. They're 18-12 at home, where the Orioles catch them in this series. Last year, the Phillies won four of six games against the Orioles. Pat Burrell has a nine-game hitting streak. The Orioles might want to pitch around Person, who homered twice, including a grand slam, in a game this month.
