WITH A LITTLE cooperation from Mother Nature and the support of the local community, the Lake Shore Fire Company's second annual carnival will be a rousing success.
To kick off the carnival, which runs through June 15, parade chairman Tom Brown has organized a "true" fireman's parade, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"Our focus for this year's parade is to honor the unsung heroes that have helped to make our county great," Brown said.
Leading the parade will be Richard Udoff, a veteran of World War II and Korea, followed by fire equipment from a number of surrounding counties, antique cars, marching units, majorettes and color guards.
"Lights, sirens and air horns are mandatory for all in-service equipment in the parade, so we expect to make a lot of noise," Brown said with a chuckle.
The parade will start at Postal Court, proceed west on Mountain Road past the reviewing stand, turn left onto Artic Drive, and end at the carnival site at Brumwell's Flea Market on Mountain Road.
Carnival hours will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday and 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday. John Jerigan is chairman of this year's carnival.
The midway will feature more than 40 attractions, bands, food and refreshments.
Thursday is WQSR night, with games, contests and prizes planned. Station personality Big Don O'Brien will be broadcasting live from 7 p.m. to midnight.
There will be ride-all-night-for-one-price evenings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Discount coupons, good for $2 off on ride-all-night evenings, are available at Pasadena-area businesses.
"With the overwhelming support we have already experienced from local merchants and businesses in the community, we can only keep our fingers crossed that it won't rain between 6 p.m. and midnight," said Deb Simoni, carnival publicity chairwoman. "We need the rain but also we also need to get new equipment."
There is a rain date - Thursday - for the parade only.

Sportfishers get tips
The Pasadena Sportfishing Group will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Earleigh Heights fire hall on Ritchie Highway.
Guest speakers will be: Cindy Sheridan, captain of the Summer Duck from Deale; Angel Bolinger, a Maryland Department of Natural Resources biologist and mate of the Megabite from South River; and Pauline Johnson, mate on the Tracy Lynn, also from South River.
They will offer tips, techniques and insights on fishing the Chesapeake Bay.
Membership in the PSG is free and open to anglers of all ages.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for food and refreshment sales.

Church yard sale
The social ministry at Emmanuel Lutheran Church is sponsoring a yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the church, 8615 Fort Smallwood Road.
Spaces are available for $10. Food and refreshments will be sold. Proceeds will benefit the social ministry reserve fund.
