PocketHub adds peripheral ports for laptop users
The Kensington PocketHub ($40) appears to be no more than a small plastic box with a cord, but it couldn't be more helpful to laptop computer users. That's because Kensington's tiny Universal Serial Bus hub easily plugs into notebook computers to provide four extra ports.
Moreover, it features a mini- AC adapter to make it one of the smallest powered hubs you'll see on the market.
The hub is 2-by-2 inches and less than half an inch thick. Once packed in its small carry case with the AC adapter, it takes up very little room in a laptop bag.
If you have a desktop computer with little desktop left, the PocketHub takes up far less space than most conventional powered hubs.
Recently, I plugged a printer and mouse into my laptop, taking up both onboard USB ports. Then, I wanted to plug in my ergonomic keyboard to cut down on the errors I get when I type using the laptop's mini-keyboard.
The PocketHUB not only allowed me all three peripherals but even gave me a place to plug in a scanner.
