HCC naming center for business training in honor of Ecker
In tribute to former Howard County Executive Charles I. Ecker and his role in linking business, government and education interests, Howard Community College will rename its business training division the Charles I. Ecker Business Training Center.
As his first official act at his namesake, Ecker will recognize a new agreement between the college and Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc., in which the college will provide training to Honeywell employees throughout the country via the Internet.
The naming ceremony will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today at the college's business training center, 6751 Gateway Drive, Columbia.
Rotary Club to award scholarships to four
The Columbia Rotary Club Robert Davidson Scholar Athlete Award will hold its 17th awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at That's Amore restaurant in Columbia. First-place winners will receive $2,000 scholarships; runners-up $1,000.
Winners are Elizabeth Moraz from Chapelgate Christian Academy and Matthew Hostetler from River Hill High School. Runners-up are Allison Rabinowitz from Glenelg Country School and Andrew Croner from Oakland Mills High School.
Scholarships target future child care providers
The Maryland Higher Education Commission is offering Maryland Child Care Provider Scholarships to Maryland residents who attend a college in the state and enroll as full- or part-time degree-seeking undergraduates in a child-development or early-childhood education program.
Successful applicants must agree to work as child care providers in Maryland for one year for every year of assistance received.
Awards range from $500 to $2,000 per academic year. The application deadline is June 15.

Sports camps scheduled at Atholton High School
Atholton High School Sports Booster Camps will be offered this summer.
Boys lacrosse will be offered June 17-20; co-ed soccer June 17-21 and Aug. 5-9. Baseball, field hockey, wrestling, volleyball, tennis and football also will be offered.

@SUBHEDSummer sports camp offered by River Hill High
The River Hill High School Boosters Association will sponsor its seventh River Hill Boosters Summer Sports Camp.
Boys and girls basketball, baseball, cross country, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball, track, volleyball and wrestling will be offered.
Camps for children ages 9 to 14 will operate from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, with some exceptions. The cost is $100 for one week.

Special education program needs summer volunteers
Volunteers are needed for the Consolidated Special Education Summer School Program, to be held from 7:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. weekdays, June 26 through Aug. 1, at Cedar Lane School and Harper's Choice Middle School.
Volunteers must be at least 13 years old or about to enter eighth grade. Experience is not necessary.
