90 residents displaced by fire at Edgewood complex

More than two dozen apartments were damaged or destroyed yesterday in a three-alarm blaze in Edgewood, forcing about 90 residents to seek shelter elsewhere, the state fire marshal's office reported.

The fire broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the Hillside Apartments in the 700 block of W. Bel Air Ave., and quickly spread through a three-story building with 30 apartments, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph Zurolo, who said damage was estimated at more than $1 million.

At least 100 firefighters from six companies battled the blaze, which was declared under control at 3:30 p.m. Two occupants and a firefighter from Aberdeen were treated for minor injuries, and the cause of the fire was under investigation, Zurolo said.
