House sitter fends off attacker in Eldersburg

A 25-year-old woman house-sitting at an Eldersburg residence was hit in the face with a metal tool by a masked man Wednesday night, but managed to disarm and chase him away, Maryland State Police at Westminster say.

The incident occurred about 9:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Gibbons Road, as Megan Michelle Harmon was getting out of her car. She was approached and struck by a lone man, police said. She struggled and pulled the weapon from him, then locked herself in her car and called police on her cellular telephone. Harmon was treated at the scene for facial injuries.

The assailant was described as a 16- to 25-year-old white or light-skinned man, under 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark blue lightweight hooded jacket with red trim and a light or tan ski mask over his mouth and nose. Anyone with information should call state police at 410-386-3000.
