Police suspect the same man in three recent bank robberies

When the SunTrust Bank in the 6400 block of Freetown Road in Columbia was held up yesterday, it became the third SunTrust branch that police believe the same man has robbed in less than a month.

A suspect described as a clean-shaven white male in his late 30s to early 40s approached a teller about 11:40 a.m. yesterday, implied he had a weapon and demanded money, Howard County police said.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

His description and the details of the crime are like those in two other recent robberies - another in Howard and one in Baltimore County, police said.

A man with a similar description robbed the SunTrust Bank inside the Safeway grocery store at Bethany Lane and U.S. 40 about 5:40 p.m. Feb. 5, police said. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect has changed his appearance slightly, investigators said.

The man in the robbery Feb. 5 wore an Old Navy hat and dark jacket. The man in yesterday's robbery wore a light-colored hat and shirt and tie, photos from security cameras show.

Baltimore County police also suspect that the same man robbed a SunTrust Bank in the 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road on Jan. 28. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

In each robbery, the man implied he had a weapon but did not display one, police said, adding that no injuries occurred during any of the crimes.
