Builder found for Race Road bridge project

A Rockville company has been awarded a $394,000 contract to replace a bridge at Race Road over Piney Run in Hanover, according to Anne Arundel County officials.

The contract with State Contracting Inc. was signed early this month by County Executive Janet S. Owens. When completed in September, the bridge will be able to handle heavier loads, said Pam Jordan, a spokeswoman for the county Department of Public Works.

The project includes work to widen and straighten Race Road near the bridge, she said. Drivers might encounter periodic lane closures during the project, which was scheduled to begin last week. The contractor is to work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
