County grand jury indicts prisoner with DNA evidence

In a case that prosecutors say was broken using recently established DNA databases, an Anne Arundel County grand jury has indicted a prisoner on charges that he kidnapped a Meade Senior High School student from the school's parking lot and raped her more than two years ago.

The indictment, unsealed last week, charges Eric M. Brunner, 33, a prisoner at the Eastern Correctional Institute, with the November 1999 assault, which led to heightened security at the school. Prosecutor say the indictment marks the fifth time in Anne Arundel County that the DNA database has led to criminal charges in previously unsolved crimes.

Arundel library board seeking new administrator

The Anne Arundel County Library's Board of Trustees has formed a search committee to conduct a national search for a replacement for the systems administrator, who is retiring later this year, library officials said.

Ronald S. Kozlowski has announced that he will retire in October after nine years as the county's library administrator. During his tenure he secured money for new, larger facilities in Maryland City and Crofton and for a 40,000- square-foot regional library in Odenton which, when completed, will be the largest library branch in the county.
