Ravens Roost bull roast set for Feb. 23


Ravens Roost No. 18 of Glen Burnie will hold its annual bull and oyster roast Feb. 23 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie.

The event, scheduled for 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., will feature music by Rich and the Roadrunners.

Tickets are $28 in advance. Part of the proceeds will go to the club's charitable endeavors, including contributions to area youth and high school sports and cheerleading programs, to the St. Vincent's Center for troubled youngsters.

Kritikos Toastmasters roast member Yeaton

Glen Burnie resident Betsy Yeaton was honored by her Toastmasters club, Kritikos Toastmasters, as its Roastee of the Year.

Yeaton, a former club president, has served as an officer of the club for each of the five years she has been a member.

Kritikos Toastmasters is a dinner club that gives members the opportunity to improve their communication and leadership skills.

Blood pressure: North Arundel Hospital's Auxiliary offers free blood pressure screenings from 8:30 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at Harundale Presbyterian Church, next to North County Area Library at Eastway and Guilford Road in Glen Burnie; from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the first Thursday of each month in the hospital's main lobby; and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. the third Thursday of every month next to J.C. Strike up the bands: Two concerts will be held in March as part of the Glen Burnie Gala of Music, which features instrumentalists from area schools. An orchestra concert March 1 will feature string performances by children from Point Pleasant, Marley, Freetown, Glendale, Woodside, Richard Henry Lee, Oakwood and Quarterfield elementary schools, Corcoran and Marley middle schools and Glen Burnie High School. A band concert March 8 will feature players from the schools. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Glen Burnie High.
