Applications due Thursday for loan program

The deadline for farmers to sign up for 2000 Crop Year Loan Deficiency Payments (LDPs) on farms without a Production Flexibility Contact (PFC) is Thursday.

LDPs to operators of noncontract farms were authorized in an amendment to the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996.

The amendment applies to farms not signed up initially for a PFC in 1996 and covers such commodities as wheat, corn, barley, rye, oats, sorghum and cotton.

The amendment applies only to the 2000 crop year. Producers are eligible for a beneficial interest exemption on commodities produced on farms without PFCs if the crop was harvested and marketed by April 12 this year.
