LOS ANGELES - Actor Robert Blake's slain wife is to be buried at a Hollywood Hills cemetery today, three weeks after she was shot to death while sitting in their car on a quiet street in Studio City, family representatives said.
"It'll be brief, but it is the kind of thing that has to be done," said Blake's lawyer, Harland W. Braun. "Robert is extremely saddened." Blake plans to attend the funeral for Bonny Lee Bakley accompanied by the couple's infant daughter, but Bakley's family will not be there because they are "distrustful" of Blake, said Cary Goldstein, the Bakley family lawyer.
Blake told Los Angeles police that he and Bakley were walking to their car after dining at an Italian resident May 4, when he realized he had left a handgun in the restaurant and returned for it. He said he returned to the car to discover Bakley had been shot.
Since Bakley's death, detectives have interviewed Blake, describing him as a witness, and have searched his property twice.
