Girl, 12, tells police that man in van tried to abduct her

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A 12-year-old girl told police that she was the target of an abduction attempt as she walked to her bus stop in Ferndale yesterday morning.

The girl - a pupil at Lindale Middle School - said a man who appeared to be in his mid-30s offered her a ride in his van, followed her along Williams Road after she declined the offer, then opened the door and tried unsuccessfully to pull her inside, according to a county police report.

Police said the girl notified the school guidance office, prompting a call to police and an unsuccessful search for the man. He was described as white, with a dark complexion, thin build, brown hair and beard. He was wearing a dirty gray T-shirt, black pants and a tan camouflage baseball-type cap.

The van was described as white, with a red stripe and black lettering on each side, police said.
