Board to hold hearing tomorrow on site for elementary school

The Board of Education of Howard County will hold a public hearing about a potential site for the proposed northeastern elementary school No. 4 at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the boardroom of the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The 40-acre site, which is owned by the Howard County Department of Public Works, consists of a parcel on the eastern side of Old Stockbridge Drive, south of Route 108 and Montgomery Road.

The Board of Education will hold public hearings on proposed Policy 1011, "Grants," as well as revisions to Policy 2060, "Grading, Reporting, Promotion, Retention and Acceleration," during the 7:30 p.m. session of the regular board meeting tomorrow.

Anyone who wishes to speak at the hearings may telephone the executive assistant to the board at 410-313-7197 or sign up at the hearing.

Those who speak are asked to provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the time of the presentation.

The board has moved its scheduled meeting for the approval of the FY02 Operating Budget to 9 a.m. May 29 in the boardroom of the Department of Education.

The meeting had been scheduled for June 1.

Instructional materials on display through June 14

Secondary science and elementary social studies instructional materials for use in Howard County schools will be on display in the lobby of the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through June 14.

Forms will be available for residents to ask questions or express approval or concerns.

Citizens may address college trustees meeting

The board of trustees of Howard Community College will hold a work session, followed by a public meeting, at 6 p.m. May 30 in the Conference Room, A225, Administration Building, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

Those who wish to speak should submit a written request to the secretary-treasurer of the board at least 72 hours before the meeting.

College to offer session on its computer programs

Howard Community College will hold an information session about its computer and networking certification programs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today in the college's Galleria.

Faculty and program assistants will be available to discuss the college's certification program.

Library branches to close Sundays during summer

All branches of the Howard County Library will be closed Sundays, beginning next week, for the summer.

Head Start is accepting applications for 2001-2002

The Community Action Council Head Start Program is accepting applications for the 2001-2002 school year.

Applications will be accepted for children born in 1997 and 1998 who will turn 3 before Dec. 31.
