Man, 53, killed, brothers injured in Route 80 crash


URBANA - A 53-year-old Hagerstown man was killed and his two brothers were seriously injured yesterday when their truck was struck head-on by a 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that crossed the center lines on Route 80 west of Big Woods Road, state police reported.

Gerald Lee Gastley of the first block of Washington Street was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was in the front center seat of a 1989 Ford F-150 driven by John David Gastley, 67, of the 8000 block of Reichs Ford Road in Frederick, at the time of the accident, which occurred about 3 p.m., police said.

John Gastley and the driver of the Monte Carlo, identified as Martha Ogilvie Emmerling, 67, of the 3000 block of Firestone Drive in Ijamsville, were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where they were listed in critical condition last night.

Jay Gastley, 56, was flown to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, where he was listed last night as stable.

The accident, which occurred near the town of Urbana, remained under investigation last night, police said.
