Jen Mezzadra scored six goals and Christine Sliger added three to lead Salisbury State to a 16-10 victory over Ursinus in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament yesterday.
Salisbury (14-3) advances to today's national quarterfinal round to face Mary Washington (14-4), a 10-6 winner over Washington & Lee in the second game of yesterday's regional. Salisbury and Mary Washington will be meeting for the third time this season.
Ursinus jumped to an early 3-0 lead on goals by Jaime Matty, Emily Durkin and Erin Fitzgerald. Mezzadra then scored three straight in under a minute to pull the Gulls even. With the score tied 4-4, Salisbury scored five straight, with Mezzadra adding her fourth and fifth of the game during the run.
