Uptown Concerts announces performances at Baldwin's
Uptown Concerts is sponsoring performances by folk musicians at Baldwin's Station in Sykesville.
Pierce Pettis, a songwriter whose lyrics evoke the human experience, will sing Wednesday. Tickets are $12.
Performer and songwriter Jon Carroll will take the stage May 16. He was vocalist and player for Starland Vocal Band in the 1970s. He will be joined by Bill Danoff, also of the band and co-writer of "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Tickets are $14.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and shows begin at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are required.
Uptown Concerts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of folk and traditional music.

Classes in balloon sculpture, magic offered this month
Carroll County Arts Council is offering two classes this spring directed by Tom Crowl, a comedian and musician who has entertained at festivals in the region.
"Basic Balloon Sculpture" will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 23 or May 30. Each one-session course will cover the basic twists to create single-balloon sculptures such as dogs, bears, swords and swans. Participants must be age 10 or older. Tuition is $24 for arts council members and $29 for others. The fee includes supplies.
"Beginner Magic" will be offered from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 23 or May 30. The class is for those age 8 or older and will cover basic self-working tricks and easily mastered sleight-of-hand tricks. Tuition is $22 for council members and $27 for others.
Classes will be held at the council, 15 E. Main St., Winchester Exchange Building, Westminster. Reservations must be made by May 13.

Arts council to present arts camps for children
Carroll County Arts Council will offer summer arts camps for children. Programs include:
Make-It, Take-It Arts Camp, for ages 9 to 12: Campers will work with professional artists to make an item each day. Sessions will be from June 18-22, June 25-29 and July 9-13. The cost is $80 for arts council and Westminster Family Center members and $85 for others.
Creative Teens, for ages 13 to 16: Students will tackle more complex art projects at Westminster High School. Sessions will be from July 9-13 and July 23-27. The cost is $80 for arts council and Westminster Family Center members and $85 for others.
Creative Arts Camp, for ages 5 to 8: Campers will experience visual and performing arts with hands-on activities and visits by local artists and performers. Sessions will be from July 23-27 for ages 5 and 6; July 30 to Aug. 3 for ages 6 and 7; and Aug. 6-10 for ages 7 to 8. The cost is $50 for arts council and Westminster Family Center members and $55 for others.
