Barbara Joan Lewis, 66, Park Elementary secretary

Barbara Joan Lewis, a retired school secretary, died Monday of respiratory failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was 66 and lived in Arnold.

Mrs. Lewis retired in 1990 after 27 years with the Anne Arundel County Department of Education as a school secretary at Park Elementary School in Brooklyn Park.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., Barbara Joan French was raised in Hyattsville and graduated from Northwestern High School there in 1953.

She was a member of the Odenton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and had been treasurer of the National Imperial Glass Collectors' Society, a club for collectors of Candlewick glassware.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hyattsville.

In 1953, she married John D. Lewis Sr., who survives her.

Funeral services were held yesterday.

She is also survived by four sons, John Dean Lewis Jr. of Cape St. Claire, Michael Ray Lewis of Elkton, Kenneth Allen Lewis of Arnold and Keith Richard Lewis of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Susan Elaine Sewell of Pasadena; a brother, Larry French of Elkridge; a sister, Patricia Ann Baker of Linthicum; and nine grandchildren.
