School PTA hopes mini golf raises maxi funds

MINIATURE GOLF is family fun on a warm spring evening. Join Hampstead Elementary School PTA at Play-A-Round, the mini golf course at the Four Seasons complex on Hampstead-Mexico Road, on Friday.

A school fund-raiser, the evening of miniature golf will run from 5 to 9. The course is illuminated and features moving water, landscaping and a few moderately difficult holes on a professionally designed course.

"It's just to go play putt-putt, a family fun night out. Anyone can come," said Pat Lewis, PTA member and event organizer. "Proceeds benefit the PTA budget, which provides cultural programs, birthday books, field trips and other activities needed to support educational programs."

Annual activities include selling inexpensive Mother's Day flowers for children to purchase.

Putt-putt is $5 and $3.75 for children younger than age 12.

Workshops for parents

Workshops to inspire parents are being offered by teachers at Spring Garden Elementary School this month.

Tomorrow evening, parents will be shown how mundane activities can be changed to promote reading readiness. "Using Everyday Life Experiences to Promote Reading and Language Development" is offered by Renee Gallagher, who specializes in communication development.

Media specialists Beth Hall and Darlene Long will explore computers as an educational tool for kids. They offer the workshop "Internet Training and Data Bases that Can Be Used From Home" and "Exploring Software that Our Children Use in Our Computer Lab" on Tuesday.

Summer fun at cultural attractions will be offered by Debbie Lemieux, extended enrichment program specialist, May 17. "Exploring Museums that You and Your Child Can Visit" provides information about diverse museums, exhibits, summer programs and events. Brochures, fliers and other materials will be available.

Each workshop is offered from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the school. Advance registration is required.
