HTS now Comcast SportsNet, adding sports news coverage

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Home Team Sports becomes Comcast SportsNet today, launching a channel that adds sports news coverage to continued telecasts of regional teams.

Comcast SportsNet will televise two nightly sports news programs, beginning with "SpotLIGHT," an hourlong show at 6 tonight that originates from Camden Yards.

After the Orioles-Boston Red Sox game, the channel will air a post-game show that includes managers' news conferences, locker-room interviews and analysis.

Comcast SportsNet's second news program, "SportsNITE," airs immediately after the Orioles post-game show. "SportsNITE," a telecast from the channel's Bethesda studios, will have local and regional highlights and features.

Comcast SportsNet grew from the completion of Comcast's acquisition of Home Team Sports from Viacom in February. SportsNet will continue to televise Orioles, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards and regional college games.

Among the broadcasters joining Comcast SportsNet are Chick Hernandez and Kevin Kiley, former Washington sportscasters. Ex-Orioles Rick Dempsey and Bill Ripken will be part of the channel's baseball coverage.
