Nearly 1,600 Westminster-area customers were without electricity for about four hours early yesterday after a cargo truck struck a utility pole on westbound Route 140 near Route 97 North, state police said.
Police said the driver, Randy L. Green, 27, of Woodbine struck the pole after swerving to avoid a deer about 5 a.m.
He was treated for minor injuries at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, a hospital official said.
A state Department of the Environment crew cleaned up about 10 gallons of diesel fuel from the road, police said.
Westbound traffic was detoured until about 7:40 a.m., police said.
Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. crews restored power by about 9 a.m., officials said.
