The student: Joshua Shipp, 18
School: Wilde Lake High
Special achievement: Shipp was selected as one of two students in Maryland to participate in the U.S. Senate Youth Program, to be held in Washington from March 3 to 10. Student delegates will spend the week studying the federal government and will have the opportunity to meet with Cabinet members and congressional policy makers.
Big issues: "I think having their voices heard is one of the most important issues facing students today," Shipp said. "It's important that students have a say in the issues that affect them because it empowers them and gives them a stake in society."
Work ethic: "My biggest asset is my desire to see things through to the end. I'm a hard worker."
Future: Shipp hopes to pursue a college degree in computer engineering.
