Man held in Harford Co. killing

An Edgewood man charged with first-degree murder was being held in a Harford County jail in lieu of $300,000 bail yesterday.

Curtis L. Mack, 47, of the 800 block of Angel Valley Court is accused in the death of John F. Cromwell, 47, of Virginia Beach, Va. Mack appeared yesterday at a bail hearing in Harford County District Court.

Cromwell is believed to have been visiting friends when he was confronted by Mack in the 800 block of Windstream Way in Edgewood. A fight broke out and Cromwell was stabbed several times, according to the county sheriff's office. Deputies responded at 2:40 a.m. and found Mack bleeding from a hand injury. He was treated at Fallston General Hospital. Cromwell was pronounced dead at Fallston General.

The killing was Harford County's third homicide of the year.
