St. Paul's top-ranked field hockey team made the most of its time spent in the scoring arc yesterday afternoon at Severn.
Both efficient and explosive, the Gators overwhelmed the No. 15 Admirals with three goals in a three-minute span late in the first half that led to a comfortable 6-3 win.
Just after the Admirals (5-1-1) answered an early St. Paul's goal and began to settle in, the Gators (7-0) put the game away - just like that.
Sarah Sloan (two goals) cleanly one-timed a shot from the left side with 6:21 left in the half and then Claire Edelen came right back with consecutive goals to make it 4-1 at the half.
Molly Ahearn got the scoring started for the Gators just 1:13 into play and Elaine Belitsos also had a second-half goal.
The Admirals were able to stay on even terms for the first part of the first half and found the equalizer when Sara Carpenter scored in front with 13:15 left.
Then things unraveled with the Gators clearly picking up the pace, passing crisply in close and then showing a knack for finishing.
