Judge denies bail for woman charged in killing of husband

A Baltimore County District judge denied bail yesterday for a Woodlawn woman charged with murder in the killing of her husband Sept. 4.

The bail hearing came a day after county police dropped charges against a Woodlawn man in the death of 69-year-old Anthony W. Filipiak and charged the victim's wife, Rene Marie Filipiak, 34, with first-degree murder. Filipiak is being held in the county women's detention center.

Police said Filipiak gave them a written statement about the orchestration of a robbery in the couple's Woodlawn home in the 7200 block of Stony Barr Road. The robbers were supposed to take cash from Anthony Filipiak, according to the statement, but he was not to have been shot.

The killing took place about 10 p.m. Sept. 4. Mrs. Filipiak originally had told police that a man she knew only as "Bobby" came to the door asking to borrow a cup of sugar and that two other men burst in, shot her husband and left the house.

Based on that account, police arrested Bobby Marcel Lops, 24, the next day. Charges against Lops have been dropped.

County police said they are searching for other suspects in the killing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police at 410-887-2198.
